Is there a calculator or formula that I can follow when figuring wine gravity? Sometimes I check my must at 5gal and its off, so I have to add sugar or water but I am not sure how much? Next time I want to check my gravity at 4gal, so that when I have 5.5gal I am at my desired gravity. How do most of you handle this?

I follow this calculation I got from another site:

.08lbs/gallon will raise the gravity by .004 if you're using specific gravity. So for 5 gallons I would go 0.8lbs x 5 to increase gravity by .004

Hope this helps,
Grimmy

I downloaded a program (free) called winecalc. It works pretty well to add sugar/water to get an sg, or to convert gallons to ml (when I go to bottle, I'm too stupid to figure out how many 750 ml bottles I need for 4 gallons).
