Have a few buddies that grow Barley, wheat etc. I'm curious as to whether or not I could use there grain, and if so does anything have to be done to it.
I have only made beer from the kits with canned extract so far but want to move on to something new.
Thanks for any help

The answer is yes and no. You can use your friend's grain to brew, but you'll have to modify it first.
