Well, I'm looking to add a sight glass to my HLT. I had a coupler soldered for my temp probe, but after further consideration I am relocating it to my HEX out.

This leaves a 1/2 female coupler already mounted. I was looking for a local, cost effective solution. As s UPS already delayed one brew day, I've been looking at Grainger in hopes to brew Wednesday after my MRI (Long story, I need a brew day).

I plan on using a compression fitting, with o-rings (Anyone have a McMaster or Grainger reference). Though I'm curious if anyone has used poly from grainger.

Grainger Poly

I realize that is it only 1/16" thick, where McMaster offers 1/8" thick for $1.84 a foot. Since I only really need 1, but possibly a second for BK in future. I could get by with 2x 24" pieces roughly the same cost but I would have to pay shipping.

Just want to get everyone's feedback, before I order later today.

EDIT: Just realized McMaster has 8ft min, so looks like I'll go with Grainger. I'll just cut the 8ft down to 5x 19" tubes in the parking lot in order to fit in the car. Can I use a standard copper pipe cutter, or dremel with cutoff wheel? I would be afraid it would crack being only 1/16" thick.

no, copper pipe cutter will not work.
Extra fine-toothed hacksaw blade would probably be fine in the parking lot at Grainger's.

HAHa, no but it would be much easier to handle, and most sights are under 20". Just assume easier to cut into 5 sections then one large 8ft

I got the polycarbonate tubing from McMaster. Cut it with a really sharp knife on a chopping block. Quick and easy with no cracks, splits, or jagged edges.

Might not work for everyone....
