I have a Grainfather Conical Fermenter which has a built-in cooling sleeve in the body. I use a GF "Cooling Kit" connected to a 48Qt Cooler filled with Ice/ water mixture. I have been able to get the temperature of my wort down to about 51F after 12 hrs. I am brewing a lager right now... so if I keep replacing the ice in the cooler - I should be able to maintain a steady 55F for the next few weeks. Does anyone have a similar setup? What is the lowest temperature that you can cool the GF Conical to using just ice water? I am a casual brewer - so getting the glycol chiller seems like a huge investment for me. Looking for solutions that can get the temps down to 38-40F for a cold crash (or something close to a cold crash :) ).
