Many calculators suggest an increase in the recipe grain bill when batch sparging...When the grain amounts are increased is this applied to all the grains (specialty grains, etc) or just the base grain?

For example: if a recipe calls for 9lbs X, 8 oz Y, 12 oz of Z

Would all be increased or just X?

Technically all but it won't be enough of a difference with small amounts of specialty grains. But if you want to be consistent with a recipe, the % of each grain in the overall bill should be the same.

I batch sparge exclusively and never add anything because I don't fly sparge. Once you now what the efficiency of your set up is, there's no worries...

That is due to the assumption (which is sometimes incorrect) that barge sparging will give a lower efficiency that fly sparging. Once you know your system's efficiency, that may or may not be the case for you.

It is definitely better to figure out your brewery's efficiency than figure out what to add via a recipe calculator.
