got a refractometer for Christmas

Just had late Christmas with the parents due to some travel issues this year.

I got a refractometer that reads Brix & SG. Used it this morning for the first time. Wow. How did I brew without one of these for so long?? Do yourself a favor and go get one if you dont have one.

be sure to note that a direct reading on the thing is only accurate for OG. Once there is alcohol in it, it throws off the refraction and FG readings are not directly readable.

If you keep the OG number written down, you can figure out the FG reading by using the current refractometer reading and some math.
