I have been making some high gravity beers lately and I'm looking for a good recipe to balance my selection. Looking for a good recipe that's about 5% abv possibly kolsch, cream ale, or California common that will please most people. Any ideas? :mug:

5 lbs 2-row
1 lb Carapils
0.5 Carafa III
0.5 C80
0.8 oz chinook (60)
0.5 oz each Simcoe/Amarillo (1 min)
0.5 oz each Simcoe/Amarillo (dry hop)

I got less effieciency than normal so it was ~3.8% (still very good), but I was shooting for 1045-ish. Its not super bitter, just major hop aroma. Might be good for people to see that just b/c it is dark, that it doesnt mean its heavy

Edit: I get pretty decent efficiency, so you might have to increase the base to get to 1045

I am in same boat as you, need some thirst quenchers. My favorite all time is Kolsch, but it is tought to beat a nice bitter as well.

How about a Cream Common?

That Cream Ale Blend yeast makes it best IMO, but could work with a sub.
