I planted Cascade rhizomes this year and am toying with idea of planting some other hop varieties next year. What are some good varieties that you have had a lot of success growing and utilizing in the Midwest, particularly OH?

In NW OH my best producer has been Zeus. As far as plant size my Hallertau keeps spreading like wildfire. I haven't been overly thrilled with the quality of my low AA varieties though, even for flavor they seem weak.

I'm in my second year with Casade & Kent Golding in NW OH. The Cascade is doing great. I already harvested three times while the Kent has yet to produce any cones.

I have a first year planting of 8 varieties here in southwest ohio. Cascade and Chinook are doing the best for me. They both have already produced a small batch of ripe cones and are loaded with more burrs. Nugget has been just as vigorous and is loaded with burrs also, though it seems to be slower at coning out. These all reached about 18ft in height.

Centennial and Columbus were slower starters for me and are now loaded with cones. They are about 12 ft tall now.

Magnum and Williamette have grown very well and reached 16 ft, but they are not producing near as many burrs and cones as the others.

U.S. Goldings was the slowest starter and has no burrs yet. It is only about 10 ft tall.
