This is the first year I have been able to vastly increase my cider production. Previously I have only been able to make single gallon batches but I invested in a decent-sized press and my apple trees had a great yield. Anyway, I managed to get 5 gallons and my cider is now ready to bottle.

Since I have a large (for me at least) batch, I wanted to experiment with a gallon out of my batch. Being more of a beer drinker, I was excited to hear about adding hops to cider. I have some challenger hops which I use for making IPAs so I was going to try adding some of this to my gallon of cider before bottling. My question is, how much should I add? And how long should I leave it in? Obviously it will be a question of taste, but I wanted to get some ballpark figures at least. I want the cider to have a definite hops taste but I don't want it to taste like apple-flavoured beer ;-)

Thanks for reading
Allan

So after a bit of reading I decided to go for 10g of Challenger hops in my gallon and am leaving it for 7 days. I will update this thread with the results!

Good luck. I am getting ready in 2 weeks to dry hop a gallon of cider, I'm going to use some cascade hops. I recently dry hopped 5 gallons of Amber Beer with one ounce (28 grams) of Cascade for one week, and it came out good, but pretty darn strong.

So I will probably use about 1/4 ounce of Cascade in my dry hop, but I will taste test after about 3 days, 5 days, etc.... I do not want to overpower the apple flavors....
