Full boil question?

This is my first full boil. I'm gonna start with around 6 gals of water. My question is when I pour into the primary if I'm a little short of 5 gals can I just add water or will that affect anything?

No, topping off with a bit of sanitary water that is not chlorinated is not a problem.

We've been topping off with filtered water whenever necessary and no ill effects at all.

If you want, you can brew a 10 gallon batch with 5 gallons of water, and dilute it out to 10 gallons in the fermenter(s). Dilution is not a dirty word, go for it.

Anyway, people stress too much about boiloff rates and final volume. Do what you have to do to hit your OG.
