I've made three batches of beer thus far and have done two batches full boil and one partial. All were recently bottled and plan to try my first one this upcoming weekend.

I've noticed all the instructions that come with the extract kits I've used only discuss partial boils and don't mention full boils.

In doing research on this site, I've seen some mention altering the extract recipe if doing full boils. Can someone please give me a quick explanation of the thought process behind this? Or, am I OK following the recipe as is and doing a full boil.

thanks in advance.

There can be a slight difference in the amount of bittering extracted from the bittering hops in a full boil. Most of the time, you don't have to worry about it at all. In a very light low hopped beer (such as a cream ale perhaps) I might consider reducing the bittering charge by 20%. But otherwise, following the regular recipe (except with more water!) is fine.

When I was doing full boils on extract kits I still followed the recipe. I think from reading here that the only thing that really changes is hop utilization. You will get more IBU's out of your hops on a full boil. At the time I was doing IPA's so that was cool with me.
