Hi.

I live in Sacramento and my Mom gave me a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas, 2010.

That's where it all began.

I am now brewing AG and my favorite beers are pale ales and porters; I have made a few of each. Plus two light ales that turned out a little bit "Germanic." I prefer American style beers, though Belgians are growing on me.

Notable beers I have enjoyed during my 40+ laps around the sun include:

Summit Pale Ale - which I could only find when I lived in Minnesota. Excellent beer, but it has been 20 years since I have had it. I can still see the bottle and packaging in my head (too bad not my fridge).

Rubicon Brewery's Amber Ale (this tastes very much like the above beer). The Rubicon Brewery is a micro brew pub in midtown Sacramento that used to have Grateful Dead Thursdays - bring a bootleg and let all enjoy. Beers and Dead? Nice.

I also like the Sierra Nevada Porter. I liked the blue label better than the current yellow label, but that could be nostalgic. I remember the first time I had a SN Porter in Chicago after AHB bought the distribution rights.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a good staple.

Anderson Valley Brewing Company's Boont Amber is a force to reckon with.

Dogfishhead brews are alright but not as pleasing as others.

Brown Sugga, Little Sumpin Sumpin, and other Lagunitas beers are fun.

Hops? I LOVE hops. Pellet, whole, plugs, fresh (I don't have room to grow them, but my cousin does!!!) Pliney? Fantastic. Imho, it is worth the clamor to find. Celebration Ale (another Sierra Nevada brew) is a good one as is their Hoptopia and...well, I think it is apparent that I like most SN beers.

I have totally enjoyed being a lurker on this site and I believe it has made my brewing history most pleasurable and successful. Though, I have yet to brew less than 1.072 OG. I am trying....

When I am not brewing (or working pushing a pen for the fine State of CA), I enjoy gardening, welding, building race cars, and all kinds of auto racing. I used to race karts, but I could not afford two habits. The kart is gone. The buggy lives. I built a tube chassis 4x4 buggy, and own a Jeep Liberty, a Chevy truck, and a Miata to commute in. My wife's Jeep is the Liberty.

We have two chihuahua mutts.

Currently, I am researching a saison. My wife likes lighter beers and I am having trouble satiating her taste with the high gravity beers coming out of the brewery.

My grandpa was from Yugoslavia and brought his winemaking equipment from the "old country" to this one. I have joked about transitioning from a milk bottle to a wine bottle and that is not far from true. It's in my blood.

I drink responsibly. It's good to be a good liver than to have a good one...and other puns really make me laugh.

Cheers,

-Tom
