So, I bought a few 5g soda kegs from a guy on this forum and now I have some questions. First of all, there are a mix of the posts and poppets. They are:

Keg 1: Type B liq post w/ type A poppet
Type C gas w/ type A poppet

Keg 2: Type A liq post w/ type A poppet
Pinlock? gas post w/ type A poppet (the post has a 12 point star shaped base)

Are posts interchangable or should a single keg have all the same type? If I have a type A post do I have to have a type A poppet inside it?

One of the kegs has what looks like a breach that was fixed near the top. It has been sanded flat on the outside, but there is still a jagged gash on the onside about 1 inch long. I'm convinced that this is going to be a sanitary issue that makes this keg unusable. Am I overreacting?

The kegs smell kind of musty like mildew, the gaskets smell sweet like soda, the posts have rust on the inside, and it is obvious that the pressure relief vales haven't been removed in a very long time. I'm thinking of using CLR and a wire brush to clean up the posts and valves. Or should I just order new ones? I'm definitely going to get all new gaskets. Should I use more than Oxyclean and StarSan to clean out the interior and get rid of the mildew?

Finally, this guy said that he had used the kegs before and he was getting rid of them because they are not nice on the outside (they aren't). After inspecting these kegs I'm guessing he probably never used them. I didn't expect them to be perfect and he gave me an OK deal, but I'm thinking of giving him a piece of my mind? Is this reasonable or am I overreacting?

I think you have every reason to be upset. i cant speak about the posts and poppets except by saying some are interchangeable and some are not.

now did you have a chance to see these kegs before purchasing them?

even if one of the kegs is damages, the posts and poppets make up for that in my opinion. i say use the damaged keg to hold your sanitizing solution, or trash the keg and keep the valuable posts and poppets. you will end up using those one day.

if you are really that upset, contact the seller and ask for a refund. im sure you guys can work this out.

im sorry this happened to you.

Thanks zimman.
I didn't have a chance to look at the kegs before buying them because the guy lives 2 hours away and wouldn't meet me half way. I figured shipping would cost less than the gas and 4 hours of my time for the round trip to pick them up. I thought that the possibility of being called out on the forum would be enough to prevent someone from selling things in this condition and making them out to be better.

Can anyone with knowledge of Corny kegs answer my questions?
