I went to an 1800's festival that was really cool, and sampled some real cask ale. Great, but I would have loved a little more carbonation.

For my purposes, forget "REAL ALE".

Could a fitting be attached to the cask and expected to hold CO2?

I mean a wooden cask with an old fashioned spigot.

No chance?

Probably not. Wooden barrels aren't fully airtight, so you'd lose a lot. Besides...if you force carb the beer, it's technically not cask ale anymore aside from the fact that it's served from one.

It would probably fly out the spigot too. I guess a ton of burnt oak would give the same flavor.
