Hi all, I need some advice please.

I have got hold of a Resun MD 55 magnetic drive pump (http://www.resun-china.com/en/product/detail/id-289.html). It’s basically a copy of the corresponding Iwaki pump.

I intend to use this in a clean-in-place/sanitize-in-place setup for a corny keg. I’m going to pump through the liquid out post and attach an exit hose to the gas in post. I’ll have a bucket in between containing the solution to be pumped. I will circulate PBW through, then rinse water, then either starsan or iodophor.

I don’t intend to use this to transfer wort.

Does anyone know whether this pump would be considered food safe? Or in fact whether it needs to be food safe given what I want to use it for?

It’s a magnetic drive so I know the engine part is separate from the wetted part. But I don’t know whether I also need to worry about the materials used in the wetted part (can’t seem to find out what they are online).

Anyone got any thoughts? Thanks a lot.

I think you'll be fine since its being used for cleaning and rinsing but I'm no authority on this either...

Most of the threads (check out the DIY Cleaners forum https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=254) for keg/carboy/line cleaners all use generic (cheap) utility pumps.. none of which are food-safe -- most of which aren't mag drives even. personally I use a cheapo utility 560gph sump from HomeDepot.

I'm no expert here, but I believe you'll be fine.

I think you'd be fine with one possible issue. I know PBW and also StarSan don't get along with certain plastics. You'll want to check the impeller and housing materials to be certain they are compatible.

Thanks all. I'll try again to find out the construction materials, but it seems like I should be good.
