Just brewed a 5gallon batch of beer yesterday and have it fermenting in a glass carboy. This afternoon, we noticed that foam was coming out of the airlock. Is this normal? Last time we fermented in a bucket so we did not notice thus.

Do you mean that the Star San in the airlock is foaming or has the Krausen made it up to the airlock? Two different issues. :)

Sorry, meant to elaborate on that. It us foam coming out of the beer.

I took an airlock and cut off the bottom 1/2 " where the slots are . That allows the foam to flow without clogging up your airlock . bad news if it does . Then instead of putting the inside piece in the airlock just stick a vinyl hose over the tube inside the airlock . Place the other end of the hose in a jar of water . This will let that foam bubble into the water jar and not let in air .
