I am brewing a recipe that calls for both rye malt and rye flake. What does the flaked ingredient add to the recipe? Thanks!
 
Mouthfeel, head, body. At least that's what flaked barley adds, I suspect all flaked grains add those. It will also add some of the distinct flavor of the grain.

Rye is a quite bitter grain, (chickens won't eat it), since it contains a high amount of phytin phosphate.

Rye will add a peppery, strong different kind of bitter to your beer.
