I'm getting ready to try a full boil for the first time and was wondering if I need to alter my recipe. It is an IPA and the recipe as written is extract brewing as normal... steep grains in 2.5 gallons of water add LME bring to boil..... you know the drill. My question is if I use this recipe and after I've steeped my grains I add enough water to bring the boil volume up to 6 gallons... aiming for a finished 5 gallons of beer... do I need to re calculate the ingredient amounts? I know hop utilization will be different... but say I boil down to a perfect 5 gallons will this be the same brew as if I had boiled the 2.5 gallons and then added another 2.5 gallons of water????

You do not need to modify anything. Hop utilization differences are negligible. You can old off adding all of your extract until later in the boil to prevent caramelizaltion, but it's really a personal preference.
