:ban: 3 HB of brown ale and 2 hours later its it the bucket. I have my 1st stout under my belt, and I hit my mark of 1054.

6lbs light DME
.75 crystal 80
1/2 lb choc. malt
1/4 lb. barley
1oz kents gold

LHB talked me out of the 1/4 of patent.
brewsmith est. of 1054 and I hit it dead on.
I again used 2 gal. ice to chill wort and it works great, any comments on the ice theory? I am drinking a brown ale that I used ice with before and it is pretty good, I don't see why more people don't use it.

I am looking for a beer the wife will drink and I can stand. I love the darks and can't hardly drink IPA or anything extra bitter. She says she likes the brown, but it is too heavy.

cheers,

I love the ice method. I use 1.3 gal rubbermade container, sanitized and frozen. On my last batch, I had the wort in the primary at 68 degrees in about 8 mins. Cant attest to the taste yet as I am waiting for my first few batches to finish up still.

Congrats on hitting the stout right on. :mug:
