Hey all. Planning on making my own scoby. However my whole foods is currently only in stock of flavored non alcoholic Kombucha. Can I use this or should I be patient for the next shipment to come in of the real stuff?

I haven't personally used flavored commercial booch as a starter tea but I wouldn't hesitate to try it. The culture should still be viable.

I already went for it so I'll see how it goes lol.

I'll start another one as well just in case

Would the oils cause similar flavors to my next batch of Kombucha as the flavor I used or are there other risks

As I said earlier, there should be no problems. If there is a slight flavor carryover, if will be gone by the second batch.

If it shows signs of activity in the fermenter, it will be booch.
