Hey all this is my first recipe and looking for some feedback. I'm looking for a wheat, slightly hoppy red ale.

5 Gallon Batch

6 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 51.1 %
4 lbs White Wheat Malt (2.4 SRM) Grain 2 34.0 %
1 lbs Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (40.0 SRM) Grain 3 8.5 %
8.0 oz Wheat, Flaked (1.6 SRM) Grain 4 4.3 %
4.0 oz Chocolate Wheat Malt (400.0 SRM) Grain 5 2.1 %
8.0 oz rice hulls

0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 6 13.3 IBUs
0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] - Boil 15.0 min Hop 7 6.6 IBUs
0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] - Boil 10.0 min Hop 8 4.8 IBUs
1.00 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 9 5.3 IBUs

What do you think? Kind of out there, but I am just trying new things and I don't think that anything here is too crazy.

Any help is much appreciated! :rockin:

Love the concept of a hoppy wheat red ale!

Are you going for an American Wheat as a base? What yeast were you thinking of using? I'm thinking a clean neutral yeast (US-05, Nottingham, etc.) would really make this crisp & tasty..

Good luck!

Rice hulls are your friend with wheat, just saying.

Otherwise, interesting idea. I'd use Melanoiden instead of the chocolate if you are looking for a red color.

Cheers,
Kef
