Took my first gravity reading 8 days later. After taking the measurement I tasted the ale and it was pretty watery. Should I be worried or is that normal at this point?

There are so many questions I don't know where to start.

Let's see...

Extract, Partial Mash, or All-Grain?

What was your recipe?

What was your process?

What was your OG?

I don't mean to sound like a d!ck but more info is needed. Don't feel bad. I believe my first posts lacked in necessary info as well.

Extract brewers best Euro bock
1.65 starting
1.020 When I took it 8 days later. the final gravity should be 1.020 So i am kind of worried.

Ok, not familiar with the recipe. I could be wrong here but I got a tingle in the brain that makes me think Bocks should be cold conditioned for awhile. Don't take my word for that. Wait for a couple of people to chime to see if I am right about that.

What Yeast did you use? My guess is Munton's.

Any of us that will be able to help you will really need the recipe as well as the final volume of the batch and what the final volume of the batch is supposed to be.

Some of this is first beer jitters. It's not carbonated so the mouthfeel you are getting is truly UNrepresentative of what your beer will feel like when it's carbed.

I suspect with that high a gravity (making the assumption that you are reasonably close to the volume that the recipe calls for and that you followed the instructions (I guess I am making the assumption that you did a kit as well:D)) you have nothing to worry about as far as the end product being watery.

Give it time...

Do a search for "is it ruined" or "ruined." You will see that many of us have had the same doubts and worries that you are having right now (including, I believe, my first post). Take solace that unless you danced a jig (and didn't even try to follow the directions) in the brewpot and the fermentor that it is very hard to f*ck up beer. :ban:
