I just got done cleaning up after my first brew.. I think everything went pretty well with a couple small hiccups put nothing I feel was big. Really the biggest problem I ran in to was that I think my turkey fryer burner was not powerful enough. I think I'm going to look in to a banjo burner or something. Also I realized after about 15 minutes of the wort chiller not dropping the temp very fast, if you stir it at the same time it drops right down.

I brewed the Northern Brewer Scottish 60 kit as I figured if I end up screwing up my first brew it was the cheapest kit I have, and it says it should be ready in 4 weeks which was also the quickest finish I have in the kits I bought.

I'm really looking forward to watching it progress, and will probably get number 2 going as soon as I free up my primary carboy. I have a feeling if the first batch is drinkable it will go real fast :mug:. I think I'm going to go for the cream ale kit for my next one and follow that with the phat tyre. :rockin::rockin:

Way to go! Sounds like a successful brew day!

Get that second one going as soon as you can - a pipeline is key to a happy homebrewing operation.

What brand/model of turkey fryer did you use? We are moving to a house with an electric stove top and I prefer using gas so I am looking into turkey fryers. Are you happy with your choice?

What makes you think your burner wasn't powerful enough? I have a pretty standard turkey fryer and have never had problems heating or keeping a boil going. As for the immersion chiller, yeah, you gotta stir like a friggin maniac to get the temp down. It usually takes me about 10-15 minutes of stirring to get the temp down pitching range.. It does a very poor job if it's just sitting in there.

Our current gas stove does a fine job but the heat output for the electric stove in the new house we are moving to is 60% of a gas stove top. Thus, I don't think I will be able to do 6-7 gallon boils easily without moving outdoors to use another LP source. If I were doing 3 gallon boils this electric stove would be fine but I have grown use to doing full boils now.

Very nice. I'm somewhat new...about 7 all grain batches in. I'm addicted...enough so to start a blog to help some of those guys I know who think it sounds harder than it is. Congrats on your first batch!

It is a masterbuilt turkey fryer kit I got at my farm and fleet store a while back that I bought actually for doing turkeys. It seems to have the same type of burner that any other turkey fryer I ever seen had so Im not sure the deal there. I did buy a 7.5 gal stainless pot just for beer though. I say it didn't get hot enough because it took a real long time to get 6 gallons to a boil and it did boil but never really held a big rolling boil.
