Boiled up my first batch Wednesday evening. It was a Nut Brown extract w/ specialty grains from Northern Brewer with Wyeast 1028. I snagged an old-fashioned grain mill from the folks and was immediately surprised at how much work went into the boil. I'm thinking it will pay off in the end though.

O.G. wound up at 1.055. I expected near 1.044 but I added a cup of brown sugar to the wort based on some advice I saw in the forums. I was starting to get worried when it hadn't started to form a krausen by this Friday morning, but here it is, Friday night, and she's looking nice and frothy!

I'm hoping it turns out well, so I can show off to my suite-mate at college who also started homebrewing this summer!

Yea, pics are a must! Funny how now that I'm making my own beer, I love to see pics of other people's beer, from start to end :mug:

Congratulations... don't let the new-brewer's nerves get to you... the beer will be fine...

Congrats on your first brew!

You know that's why they call it "Beer Porn." And gosh, I loves me some Beer Porn now and then. Heh. :mug:

Took a gravity reading today, since I noticed the krausen was starting to retreat. She's right at 1.044 and 72F. I'll leave it alone for a week or so and see what I have then. I'm getting a little antsy ;)
