Well, I have my first batch bubbling happily! ( https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=76704 ) I cannot stand the wait! I'm 41 years old, love beer, and up to this point have never had the pleasure of even a sip of home brew. Not sure why it took so long for the bug to bite but it has finally bitten and the bite wound needs stitches at this point!

Actually I know what motivated me. A yard sale! My wife's yard sale to be precise. I told some friends that SWMBO was having one and asked if they wanted to bring over some things to add to the sale. One buddy of mine brings over 4 tall cylinder looking things. I asked what the heck those were and he informed me they were "Corny kegs", used for making home brew. I nod, add them to the sale and forget about it. Luckily for me, no home brewer came to the sale because he was asking 5 dollars each and not one of them sold. He said he didn't want them back because he was in the middle of moving and asks me if I want them. I figure sure, I can probably sell them on eBay. So, I sit at the computer getting ready to surf on over to eBay, but first decide to Google "Corny keg". That, my brewing friends is what got the ball rolling.

Several hours later I'm still at the computer, hitting brewing site after brewing site, eventually finding this one and getting more excited by the minute. "I can do this!" I shout, as I begin searching online for a LHBS.

Here's where some luck comes in. I'm not in financial dire straights, but extra cash for a new hobby/obsession is not something in great supply. Being already involved in several money sapping activities (guitar, smoking meats, and fishing to name a few) I knew fitting in yet another fun filled activity would be tough but when I started telling people that was going to home brew some beer, an amazing thing happened.

It seemed almost everything I needed, somebody had and didn't need and wanted me to have it, in exchange for a glass or three of the eventual results! Between them, and at a cost of zilch, I now have at my disposal;

8 Corny kegs, 4 five gallon carboys, an immersion chiller, a full five pound and empty twenty pound CO2 tanks with regulators, a Kenmore kegerator with a tower tap on top, (Amazing!) and a bunch of misc. stuff from a former wine maker, air locks, bungs, carboy funnel, racking cane, wine thief, etc.

Just incredible!! It's like a sign, I'm SUPPOSED to make beer!!

Add this to what I already have on hand, unused chest freezer for fermentation chamber, like new turkey fryer with 7.5 gallon brew pot, and wild eyed enthusiasm and away we go.

Now, after reading up, I see if I'm wishing to go AG, I still have a ways to go equipment wise, but for extract recipes, I'm more or less set.

Just thought I'd share my story, and give y'all an introduction of myself, a lucky noob who figures to be around here quite a bit for the foreseeable future.

Free corney kegs, and most of the equipment given to you...I hate you, you know:D

Welcome to the hobb...er, let's call ot what it is...OBSESSION!!!!!

:mug:

Now leave your beer in the primary for 2-3 weeks...and bottle for another 3 weeks @ 70...I know it's hard, but it will be worth it!!!

Wow that is freakin' awesome. I'm the only one of my friends that has an interest in brewing, so I had to purchase my equipment.

That having been said- have fun with extract brewing, you can make some awesome batches of beer that way. I still haven't converted to all-grain, mainly because I'm happy with the way my extract batches are turning out.

Good luck! and most importantly-
