Yesterday evening I attempted my first AG, a Midwest Pumpkin Ale. All went very well, I finally got to break in my new equipment, Two 7 gallon Rubbermaid coolers, Hurricane burner, and a stainless wort chiller. That Hurricane burner kicks azz, and if anyone has doubts about a stainless chiller, it had the temp down to below 80 in 15 minutes. I took a gravity reading before boiling and it was 1.032, and after the boil it was up to 1.050. I managed to get about 5.5 gallons in the fermenter and it's bubblin away as I type. The kit was supposed to have a SG of 1.042-1.046, I'm guessing the canned pumpkin raised the gravity, it was in a course bag for 10 minutes, but not much was left after the boil. Thanks to all of the great posts and helpful tips!
