What solutions other then false bottoms have people put on there pick up tube to filter out hops etc?

I've not done it, but read that you can use a copper scrubber.

Do a search on ebay you can find ss screen in an assortment of meshes for as low as $5 shipped. You would be able to make a hop stopper for a heck of alot cheaper then buying one.
