Fermentation temps

I know where my temps should be but I'm a little confused. If my stick on thermometer says 68 degrees, am I good, for an ale? Or does that mean the inside temp is 5-10 degrees higher and I need to drop the temp?

That is usually a good indication of the temp in the fermenter. So if you where targeting 68 as your ferment temp you are good.

You are good. 68 is fine for an ale. What people are saying is that active fermentation can raise the temp of the wort a few degrees. So if ambient temp is 65, you fermenter may be 68 due to the yeast creating heat while they digest the sugars. The stick-on fermometer is pretty accurate.
