My Johnson Digital Temperature controller came in for my frigidaire freezer. Where should i place the sensor?

Do I leave the sensor suspended in the air?
Do i fill a cup with water and put it in there?
Do I partially fill the cup, or fill it up all the way?

Currently i have it suspended in the air.

Place the sensor against your keg or carboy, put some bubble wrap or something to insulate it from the ambient air and then tape that all on the vessel.

Well i just bottled my first batch. I have them in the freezer, with the setting at 66 degrees with a differential setting of 3 degrees.

I have a cup in there right now with a handle and i have it ziptied to the cup handle, the sensor not touching anything.
