I just did my first batch of AG and have a stainless mash tun with a Fermentap thermometer mounted through the side. While heating the strike water the thermometer was reading very close to my trusty floating thermometer I had in the water as well. Once I added my grain i removed my floating therm as I assumed they were the same. My temp dropped to about 142 (mash temp of 152) so I fired the burner up and let it go for awhile. What I didn't realize was that as soon as I added my grain the Fermentap therm basically quit working.

If I stirred the grain off of the probe it would work for a while but then not register again. I just wondered if anyone knew what the issue was or had any suggestions to improve.

Thanks!!
