FastFerment Conical question

I just received my first FastFerment conical today and while "dry fitting" everything I have come across 2 spots that I'm not quite sure of.

There is a threaded spot where I thought the thermowell would go, it is indented and threaded, but it doesn't open into the fermenter. The other spot is a hole, that is almost exactly 1/2" wide, but not threaded, and too large for the thermowell.

The threaded spot that is not open to the inside is on the left side if looking at it from the measurement side, just below the bolts that hold it to the mounting brackets. The 1/2" hole, is in almost the exact same spot, but on the opposite side.

Do I have a defective unit?

I can provide pictures for clarification if it would help anyone.

It seems to me that whatever drills out the thermowell hole was done on the wrong side. Yes, I'd say it's a defect.

Quick update:

Got in contact with Jes at FastBrewing, they are shipping a replacement out to me right away.

Delayed my brew day a little, but I'm extremely happy with their customer service.
