I am exploring taking a soda recipe of mine retail. Obviously pasteurization is ideal but complicated on a small scale and time consuming.
My idea: If I rinsed the bottles with star san, filled cornelius kegs with filtered carbonated water, and brought the flavoring ingredients to a boil before adding to the keg, would the combination of those steps roughly equal pasteurization?
Would it extend the shelf life substantially or at all? Would it make refrigeration unnecessary?
