expired kit?

I'm new to home brewing (been lurking here a bit,lots of great info)and was hoping for some help, I just bought my second kit a festa brew brown ale and when I opened it the smell was awful but I didn't think much of it.Its now 24 hours, not fermenting yet.so I check the yeast and it says this-Nottingham 11g dry yeast

UPC 067031000218- (the yeast comes in the kit box) so I was wondering how long does a bag of wort last? is mine expired? on the bottom of the box it says 2009.any help would be greatly appreciated.The kit was on sale for 10$ off!should I ask the shop owner for a new kit?

I'm sure it's fine. Give it at least 3 days, and if it hasn't started up, then get back to us.

It's fermenting like crazy. ITs coming out the airlock so I took out the airlock and put a hose in,with the hose end in a bowl of water.

Well, there's a mistake that could hurt your beer, but not if you fix it soon.

You need to put the end of that hose in a sanitizer, not water.
