I used to do just extract batches years ago. I decided this winter I was going to start brewing again, and I was going to go all grain from the start.

Now I cant think about much else. I'm either looking for brewing advice or reading about advice. I'm always planning my next batch and what neat new things I'm going to try. I love every step of all grain brewing. I find my self spending much more money then I want too, and I justify it easily. I find my self skipping work so I can brew or read about brewing. My friends are wondering where iv been. Except the ones that like drinking home brew.

With every batch I'm learning something new. If I dont like how it came out, I learn how to fix it for the next time. I'm obsessed with trying the beer in each of its stages to learn more. A five gallon batch never lasts till its done aging. The beer is always in the green stage when the keg kicks. But that's ok, now I have room for the next batch. I think a step up to ten gallon batches is in the future. Also more kegs, you can never have to many kegs.

I bet there's more then a few on here who feel the same, lol. :mug:

I am home sick from work today, and am seriously considering getting an AG batch going. My wife thinks I'm crazy.

i blame HBT for fueling my obsession. I never would have went all-grain if i hadn't joined here.

Took the words out of my mouth.

Yep, I just went all grain last Sunday and it's like a disease. My wife thinks I'm crazy and my dog looks at me funny. That's not saying much though, they did that before I went AG.

My work has definitely not been of the same caliber ever since I went AG....too much time planning the next batch, surfing this forum, tweaking recipes in beersmith, online shopping for "new toys", etc.....I'm also broke and the wife is sick of hearing me talk about it.....

AG is sweet.

I'm not even AG yet, just started PMing, and SWMBO is sick of hearing about beer brewing, the cats think I'm some weird scientist when its brew day, and I'm not satisfied unless I make at least one beer a month and do one brew related thing per weekend. Frankly, I'd rather do 3 every two months or more, but I dont have the room for bottles and no way to get into kegging yet. I'm foaming at the mouth to get a way to brew and store more beer.

heh I just told my boss I was taking a mental health day Friday. Tomorrow I will be brewing a Hoegaarden clone but trying out the new WB-06 instead of the suggested WY3944 and the second batch is a cream ale.

Agreed, Im still extract but I am drooling to start a AG setup. I just need to find a home Depot in the Harrisburg area that has a 10 gallon cooler

Same Here. I have been the same now for about 12 Months. BRewing, Brewing, Brewing. It's all I think about as far as Hobbies and things to do in my Spare time. I am leaving work at Noon tomorrow because I don't have time to brew this weekend. Soooooo, I'll just Brew tomorrow.:ban:

I am in the same boat, did PM and just got back into brewing, I currently have brewed since 18 Jan 08, over 55 gallons of beer. I know it is small in comparison, but most of that beer has also been consumed.

Last night, I was making some green beans on the stove. I walked away from the stove for a second and it started boiling over. My first thought was, "OH SHOOT, HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT THE HOT BREAK?!"

Swmbo doesn't even listen to me half the time anymore cause every other word out of my mouth is "beer". Its happening to me too. :cross:

SWMBO's laying next to me in bed sighing and shaking her head about the current topic. Wonder if she's trying to tell me something? :shrugs:

LOL....thats a nightly occurrence...I'm lying here in bed on the laptop surfing HBT and SWMBO is just staring at me...

I try to show her beer porn pics of glorious SS conicals and she can only wonder where exactly it all went wrong....:D

I hear you all. I can't stop. I love this sport! Notice how I said that, "Sport". I keep infecting the friends with the bug. But like I said, i can't stop.

For the record, My SWMBO doesn't understand either.

mine doesn't understand either. said i needed a friend to come hang out so i'd stop talking about it. haven't brewed in a while and this weekend i'm going to do my first AG batch. i'm kind of make shifting my way in to it. i'm gonna go with the grain bag and bottling bucket approach. i don't have every thing i need but i think i can get by. swmbo is tired of hearing about it big time lol

My wife calls homebrewing "your other wife". The funny thing is that she truly enjoys drinking it and encourages me to buy new homebrew toys (very dangerous thing for her to do).
I already got two other people as equally addicted as I.

Best hobby ever.

  • Homebrewing is my addiction.
  • My brewshop is my crack house.
  • My ugly junk is my paraphernalia.
  • Craft beer for pennies a pint is my justification.
  • I sometimes wake the morning after a brew session and can't remember the last 24 hours.
  • The SWMBO is my enabler (she loves my beer).
  • HBT is my support group..."Hi everyone, my name is BierMuncher...and I brew beer..."

Oh...and the beer itself....???

Well it's just a damn fine thing.

Funniest post I've read all week

Yup, I'm going crazy with this. I'm sipping on my latest brew. I think its the Continental blond on here. Ones again I'm drinking a brew with that "home brew twang" that no one including my self overly care for. Its drinkable and its tasty.......but.

So ill be on this forum for till the cows come home "twice" until I can fix my "home brew twang". Ill do it, but ya......I'm consumed with all grain.

If I hadn't joined Id still be brewing cooper cans and going to Craig tube for advice. I too blame HBT for being Obsessed with AG!

the reason I went AG = HBT

+1,000

and my friends would like to thank most of you.

They would like to whup EdWort for the Apfelwein but that was so much fun too.

Everyone I work with knows about the hop shortage from me listening to podcasts of the Brewing Network. I have beer and brewing on the brain 24 hours a day. I even dream about it. My wife only allows me to talk about beer for 10 min. at a time when we go out (which is picked based upon the beer selection).

Paradox? These two statements don't make sense to me.
Glad you're excited though, I feel the same way except for the drinking green beer, that's not ok for me.

I can't imagine going to all the work of making homebrew then drinking it green.

 it's supposed to age????

Hey at least I've gotten to the point of letting it settle a bit and get a decent carbonation....can't promise anything beyond that...:cross:
