English Ale Recipie Advice

Hi All,

I'm looking to brew this weekend and I came up with the recipe by modifying others I've found. I'm trying to get something like the Tetley's Ale that I've become enamoured with lately. Any thoughts/advice/warnings would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of comments.
I'd replace the Special Roast with another 4 oz Crystal 60 (but that could be because I've never used Special Roast).
You need more hops. If you're going for all EKG, I'd at least double the size of each addition, and probably add an extra 0.25 oz to the 60 minute addition

Thanks for the advice. I've revised it a bit based on your recommendations:

I haven't had a Tetley's in a while, but from what I remember, special b doesn't sound quite right.

I remember thinking that Tetley's had a mildly wheat-y flavor, but like I said it's been a while, as in years.

I'm not sure what you mean by special b?

Thanks,

Jim

Do you think it would be worth throwing in a pound of Wheat DME?

I would go with the special roast. I just brewed an Ordinary Bitter with it in. I used .25 lbs of Special Roast and .50 lbs of Simpson's Extra Dark Crystal Malt( 150 L). It turned out great.
