I want to make the switch to all electric, how many out there are using an electric element to maintain there mash temp? How do you keep it from burning the grains that directly contact the element?

Thanks for the reply Mux,I see the idea behind that,my question is:the holes in the basket look pretty large, wouldn't the grains escape, unless they are in a steeping bag?

You can't have the grain in contact with the element. Wort has to be circulated past the element and through the grist to transfer the heat.

Splitting hairs... I have a gas direct fired MLT but don't stir at all. I have a full false bottom and recirculate while heating to remove the wort at the bottom before it overheats.
