SWMBO looks at me strange when I set the alarm for 4:30 AM...I tell her that she wouldn't think anything of it if I were going hunting...
Strike water lit!!

Starting the boil at 8:20 and starting another cup of coffee. Is it too early for a beer? :tank:

Just got some heat under my strike water.
I hoped to start the boil at this time but a combination of too much homebrew and not getting to be till after midnight killed those plans.
Anyone else appreciating the joy of morning brewing today?

Well, I'm temporarily working midnights, so I decided that brewing would be a good way to spend my weekend night. I started pretty early so I'm into the boil now.

I'm definitely appreciating the joy of the morning brew this morning. Just mashed in a little bit ago (at 6) and now I'm chilling with some really nice coffee, listening to Beck's "Morning Phase" record with the dog.

I love being up at this time of day. Especially when last night's bonfire is still smoldering just a bit.

Cheers.

I started brewing at 11 pm two nights ago after everyone was in bed, done and cleaned up by 4 am, not a soul around to bug me..lol

I got my strike water on the stove at 9 am and brew was in the fermenter at 2 pm! Cooled to 68* in the swamp cooler and pitched at 8 pm. And I cooked breakfast and supper...

Boston Butt in the smoker, home made yogurt straining, and (most importantly) BM's Centennial Blonde strike water is heating up as I type.

Gonna be a good day.

I'm looking to brew this years batch of pumpkin ale next weekend and I'd like to get a early start on it. I feel like putting something in the smoker as well. Cheers

I almost always brew early, especially in the summer as it sucks to be boiling wort when its 100 degrees outside.

I decided I was going to do a late night brew since it was going to rain all weekend. I got started at 9pm and finished at 5am. BIG mistake making a pumpkin beer late at night. Stuck sparge took 3hrs to drain.

Started at 6am on Sunday. Knocked out 10gals of Dry Irish Stout in just about 6hrs. This includes making homemade pancakes from scratch for the entire family while mashing. Also did a few loads of laundry, and some other crap around the house. The wife is on crutches with a badly sprained ankle. I wanted to brew, but didn't want her doing the house work and glaring at me. So I was super dad and did it all. I have to say, drinking a few home brews while doing house work makes it much more enjoyable :mug:

5 gals of the stout will be transformed into a Pumpkin stout. I'm thinking of roasting a sh$t ton of fresh pumpkin along with cinnamon and nutmeg, maybe add a bit of brown sugar, in the over for a while. Then racking the stout on top.

Definitely prefer morning brewing. I try to finish no later than 2pm these days for many reasons. When I started I remember how it sucked having to clean up half buzzed and hungry after supper time.

Forgot the pic

Keeping this one goin.

Just mashed in for a schwarzbier a bit ago. Lots to do today so I'm getting a jump on the brew.

Coffee is good.

Cheers.

Edit: The above setup is bada$$. Nice work dude.

Zen..... Is sitting in the brew barn at 530 this morning.... Sipping on a delicious cup of French pressed coffee (made with a sample of the heating strike water) while the delicious aroma of coffee, grains and the hiss of the propane burner fill the air.
I can watch the day "awaken" and hear and see the animals and people begin to function for the day.
They check me out as they drive by and surely wonder what I am doing at this early hour. Even had a bird inadvertently fly into the barn and perch for a minute. I figured that the smell of grain was attractive to it as well. Could not get it to land and eat some grain that I tossed, but I am sure she will be back.
About to start the boil, but my 6yr old daughter insisted that I come inside to help her make hot choc.

The truly Zen moments start now because she becomes my brew assistant (she is so "into" spending this time with me).
She recently told her classmates and teacher about the awesome weekend that she had... When asked for details, she proudly told them all "MY DAD AND I MADE A BATCH OF SCRUMPTIOUS BROWN ALE AND SOME HARD CIDER!!!"

Does it get better than this??

Filled the HLT and fired up the control panel at 550am. Mashed in at 730.

Never did a mash hops addition before. A Pliny clone. Four ozs of whole hops in the mash. Holy crap. Much, much more hops to come before this beer sees a glass :)

About to pull the first runnings on an American Pale Ale. Another fine morning to knock out a batch.

Cheers.

Everything ready about to start heating water and I glance at my UN CRUSHED grain. Sigh. Way too loud to mill it at 530 am. Looks like brew day is postponed. Maybe tomorrow.

Tomorrow you get a bonus hour of brewing!

I was just thinking the same thing :) filled my pots with water crushed my grain for a robust porter

set my timer to turn the element on at 5:30 AM

then remembered the time change so I will not change the clocks tonight get up at 5:30 and be done an hour earlier

all the best
