I've always been a fan of refractometers (and I still am), but I added a new product that can not only thief out a sample for taking a "taste test", but you can also return a sanitized sample back to the fermenter without wasting beer if you only need to perform a gravity check using your hydrometer.
It's called "The Thief" and it's make by Fermentech.
Best part about this product is it's less than $10, and worked with my existing hydrometer.
