Sitting here watching college ball , making homemade pretzels drinking a Red . The grain bill 100% viking red active . Summit , Simcoe and Centennial hops . Cheers everyone ! 20190923_151208.jpg
 
I'm not exactly sure . I think difference is Active can be used for 100% of grain bill and X calls for a certain percentage in a grain bill. I may be wrong .
 
Those look yummy.

When I was stationed in the Netherlands went to Octoberfest and had German pretzels. Never knew what made them taste so good, figured they were made with beer.

Any chance you could share that red recipe?

5.5 gallon batch
12# viking active red
Mash 150f for 60min

Ro water
.5g Gypsum mash and .3g sparge
CaCI 1.4g mash and 1g sparge
1.3 ml lactic acid
Ph 5.26

Summit .5 oz @20min
Simcoe 1oz @ 5min
Centennial 2oz @ 1min


Dry hop 4 days before kegging
1 oz of each of the hops above.

Og 1.059
Fg 1.013 if I remember
 
Some people use the spent grain and make into flour for the pretzels. That's too hardcore for me lol.
