I want to dry hop in primary a couple days after pitching as to not lose all aromas through the airlock.

My question is: I will be fermenting in a 6 gallon better bottle carboy, should I just toss the pellets in loose? That is what I am planning because I don't want to get a muslin bag stuck in there.

What are your thoughts?

Cheers

You can add the pellets directly, but you will need to use something on your siphon to strain them out. Most people use a one gallon paint strainer bag tied on with fishing line or similar.

Definitely wait until fermentation is finished! I dry hop 7 days before bottling.

I remember Matt Brynildson from Firestone Walker describing the benefits of dry hopping in primary, as the yeast have a positive impact. That being said, i'd still wait for the bulk of fermentation to be done, 3-4 days in.
