I just read an article about double batching using the same grains. Just remash and resparge for a second batch. Has anyone had sucess with this method.

My thought was to add 3lbs of new grain to the bed and remash. I would make a second starter and add hops per the recipe when doing the second boil.

Is there anything I need to think of other then the long brew day?

I have done this many times.

I have also added 3 lbs of light DME to the second runnings with great success.

You don't have to re-mash when you parti-gyle. But if you want to change the style, then it's a good approach. Make an IPA, then add specialty grains and some more 2-row for a stout.

Or mash those separately on the stove while your main mash is going on!;)

Add that to your second runnings for a different style.
