Does this starter look normal?

I'm back at it after a 2 year hiatus. I have not seen any of my starters look quite like this before...

It's Wyeast 3944 in a 1040 wort. Been on the stir plate for about 9 hrs

Yea, it's the mocha color on top that I'm weirded out by. Did not hop. I've only ever had white frothy krausens on my starters that I can remember.

How did you make the wort? DME?

Looks like hot break boiling off! haha. Other than that, it looks normal to me. How dark was your DME/LME?

Second. That strain is a top cropping yeast, so you'll have a nice healthy layer on top. Reminds me of Wyeast's London Ale III.

Thanks guys! It was definitely stirring (and vortexing). I had taken it off the plate for inspection just prior to the pic and the bar was spinning up again when I took the photo.
