Sorry for the repeat, but I accidentally posted in the wrong spot
OK, so I never document my brew sessions so I thought it was about time to share photos from this weekends successful session with my buddy Tommy (pictures below).
We brewed a 16 gallon of an experimental batch of Marrionberry Pie IPA. The backbone of the recipie is a basic brittish IPA, hopped with non-tradditional exotics intended to give a citrusy and stonefruit finish. After fermentation, we will add a marrionberry puree and see what happens.
OK here we are milling grains (38 lbs malt bill):
The system is a single tier HERMS setup, running on a modified BRUTUS gas system. Here the tanks are setup for the mash with the HLT circulating on pump one, and the MLT circulating on pump two, through the HERMS coils, and back into the MLT:
Here is the control panel. The MLT and HLT burners are controlled by PID's. Once mashed in, mash temp is controlled by the HLT temp through the HERMS coil:
Here we are doughing in the grains:
Here is the sparge in action:
Beautiful clear wort making its way to the boil kettle:
We made two hop additions. The first 60 minute addition is 3oz of citra. The last addition is at 10 minutes (citra, nelson savin, rakau, and sorachi ace):
After chilling the wort, we pitched WLP002 into the fermenter (from large 5l starter). The very happy yeast resulted in a suprise blowout the next morning - replaced airlock with a blow off tube and problem solved:
I think I officially reached the capacity of my SS Brewtech Chronical fermenter. All in all, great brew session.
