So I looked, but not asking right was to find my answer. I am going the BIAB method and have a favorite recipe that I use. When doing extract it called for 7 lb of DME-light. How do I determine what sort of grain DME - light is that I need to convert the recipe, I have the conversion chart for going grain to LME to DME. Just do not know the flavor.

Generic 2 row. Depending on the style you can use a pale ale malt, or pilsner malt.

I'm thinking 2-Row pale malt.

One other approach would be to look at AG recipes of a similar style to your extract beer and see what is used as the base malt in those. Then convert your 7lbs of DME to that grain type.

Not sure if that will help

Best of luck with your BIAB

unless is says "wheat", "rye" or "munich", etc on it. its 2 row.
but dont they usually also have some crystal in there too?

Some do. Whenever someone asks, I always recommend Extra-light or pilsner DME if they can find it. It's more of a blank canvas than the darker ones.
