I'm considering making a wort chiller. I've gathered that I need 3/8" soft copper pipe, but how much length do I need in order to make something that will cool a 5 gallon batch?

I wondered the same thing when I made mine. The answer is the longer the coil the better cooling you will have. What I found out was that a 50' coil would be too tall in my brew pot to be completely immersed in the wort for a 5 gallon batch. I went with 25' of coil. It works great for me.

I put together a quick spreadsheet to determine how many coils and height you would end up with. I think you can still get it from my old thread if you are interested.

Thanks. Trying to work out whether it's easier to buy one in the UK or make it. I don't realise about the number of coils.

Just a pipe dream at the moment (ag gag gag gag!)
