It seems that the probe for my Ranco (ETC-111000) has died. I am pretty sure it got wet. So, I am looking for a DIY solution to replacing it. I know they sell the replacement probes, but I do not really want to spend $20 (+shipping) on it.

Has anyone done this? I know Yuri posted a thread about a DIY temp probe. I am writing this at work and don't have the controller in front of me. I guess the hard part would be choosing the correct component. I guess I could take the probe apart and look at it.

Great, thanks. That makes buying it a lot more feasible especially since it is sealed up in a nice SS probe. Plus, I would rather support brewing-related stores.

Since those don't look like the RANCO probes, I will assume this guy is building them from the components.
