I have been searching and have not had any luck, but does anyone have any recommendations on what fabric/thread to use for a grain bag as well as a hop bag?

Also, any tips or tricks I should be aware of in making my own would be appreciated.

Eric

What size are you looking for? Northern brewer has some large bags, you should check them out. You could also go to a well stocked fabric store and get some nylon mesh. Ask for a small sample piece and try to tear it. If you can't easily do so then it should work for you. My wife bought some flimsy wedding dress kind of nylon which she sewed for me and it snags and rips apart too easily. I use the large bag for hops
Search results for: 'bag' and just wash when done. I can't make one any cheaper than what they have.

Paint filter bag from home depot/lowes/menards. Two pack for the price of a single one from Northern Brewer.

Swiss voile, nylon voile is what its called. Its a different mesh than the paint strainer bags. I found on the big rolls at Hobby Lobby.

Its smooth feeling. Use nylon thread to sew it together. Be sure to sew, fold and sew the seams to be sure it will hold up to the weight.
