So I just recently got into homebrewing here a month ago, and I'm about at the point. Where is some to bottle the? Dry Irish stout Im making. Just curious, but could I use carbonation tablets in conjunction with nitrogen to simulate the beer gas in my nitro-cold brew Growler. Where I'm located they don't really have any beer gas readily available, and I don't feel like paying an extra $150 for shipping of a specialty gas for a gallon of something that may or may not be good.

Yes, you can naturally carb (lower than normal) and dispense with 100% nitrogen. You could run into problems maintaining the correct balance over time in a keg, but the growler will go much faster.

For my nitro beers, I keep them at a low carbonation level and serve on 100% nitrogen through an Intertap "stout spout" at around 30-35psi. Many nitro beers (Guinness draft for example) have a very low carb level anyway, often the residual carbonation from fermentation is sufficient.

growler not growler

The nitro/cold brew growler comes with CO2 cartridges. But I assume there must be a nitrogen cartridge that fits.
As far as first attempts go, maybe a little too much CO2 but all in all this is pretty successful for when I'd call R&D lol

It takes me forever to dial in my "beer gas" on a 5 gallon keg, as well as degassing kegged wine on 100% nitrogen. I can't imagine ever having it perfect on a growler sized keg.
