Diptube depth

Worked on keggles today. I'm using diptubes in all three bk, mt, hlt. In the bk I am using a 12" false bottom. In the mt is a 15". Question is how close to the bottom should you go? 1/8" 1/4"?

I think mine were about 1/4" or so & it seemed to work fine. Some people slide a piece of silicone tubing over the end and it can be adjusted a bit.
