To make a long story short i Brewed a batch yesterday, American ipa and the batch and yet to show any signs of bubbling through the airlock. I checked the yeast tube and the date showed an expiration of 12-5-11!! It has been about 24 hours now. Can I purchase some new yeast and re-pitch? Or is the batch a waste??

Wait 72 hours before it's 'safe' to assume the yeast was dead. 24 hours is not nearly enough time. For all you know they could be going at it like rabbits in the fermenter, but haven't reproduced enough for you to see. Put on some Barry White and let them have some quality time.

Great picture! I am actually making a starter of some washed french saison yeast that is over a year old. I expect it to be just fine.
